Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
we opened on November 6th, 1996 so we are at 12 and counting.
What is your primary product or service?
all aspects of climbing, rock, ice or indoor.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My first climbing experience was in 1982 in Montana's Glacier National Park. Although my first climb was more like a very steep hike, the reward of making the summit was overwhelming. From that moment, i knew climbing would be with me for the rest of my life.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Most climbing centers are built in industrial parks, i thought we could lend more to the sport other than housing it in a box, which really limits the variations of the wall. We needed a huge volume of vertical space which we have in this old church. We have the tallest climbing wall in the state and hold nationally sanctioned competitions based solely on the variation and height of our walls.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
we have just the one business at the moment. We would love to expand to other cities. We have people ask us all the time build one in their city. But the timing has to be right, and the building has to be right as well. I really love the idea of adaptive reuse.
